สวัสดีครับ
ทุกครั้งที่มีงานสัปดาห์หนังสือแห่งชาติ ผมจะเห็นหนังสือนิทานภาษาอังกฤษที่มีภาษาไทยแปลเทียบวางขายทุกครั้ง ผมมีความเห็นสั้น ๆ เกี่ยวกับการใช้หนังสือพวกนี้ช่วยในการฝึกอ่านและฝึกแปลภาษาอังกฤษว่า ทุกครั้งก่อนที่จะอ่านคำแปลภาษาไทย ขอให้เราอ่านภาษาอังกฤษ และลองแปลด้วยตัวเองอย่างสุดความสามารถเสียก่อน แล้วจึงค่อยไปอ่านภาษาไทย การรีบอ่านภาษาไทยทันทีหลังจากที่อ่านภาษาอังกฤษจบ แม้จะช่วยใหรู้เรื่องเร็ว แต่เราก็แทบจะไม่ได้ออกกำลังสมองในการพัฒนา reading skill เลย
ที่เว็บไซต์ของ Bangkok Post เขามีคอลัมน์ Translate It ตีพิมพ์ระหว่าง ค.ศ. 2003-2007 ซึ่งมีนักแปลชั้นครูคัดเลือก news story ภาษาอังกฤษมาแปลเป็นภาษาไทยให้ศึกษา และมีคำอธิบายประกอบอีกด้วย
ผมเห็นว่าคอลัมน์นี้มีประโยชน์อย่างมากในการฝึก reading skill แต่ก็อย่างที่พูดแล้ว เราควรแปลเองก่อนที่จะดูครูแปล เพราะถ้าเอาแต่ดูครูแปลก็จะต้องพึ่งครูตลอดไปและไม่เก่งซะที การได้ลองแปลมาก่อนแล้วจึงอ่านคำแปลของครู มีประโยชน์หลายอย่าง เช่น
-ฝึกเลือกความหมายของศัพท์ (ถ้าเราเปิดดิก)
-ฝึกตีความ และทำความเข้าใจเรื่องที่อ่าน
-ฝึกศึกษาโครงสร้างของประโยค และทำความเข้าใจกับแกรมมาร์ที่ควรรู้
-ได้รู้จักตัวเองว่า ตรงไหนหรือลักษณะข้อความอย่างไร ที่เรามักจะอ่านไม่ค่อยรู้เรื่อง หรือไม่ค่อยเข้าใจ อ่านได้ช้า คลุมเคลือ เมื่อรู้จักแผลของตัวเอง การได้อ่านบทแปลของครูก็เหมือนนำยามาหยอดแผล แต่ถ้าไม่รู้จักแผลของตัวเอง ถึงได้ยามาก็ไม่รู้ที่จะหยอด เพราะแผลมันอยู่ข้างในมองไม่เห็น
